JPADS - APNTOIL
Joint Precision Airdrop System (JPADS):
The Joint Precision Airdrop System (JPADS)provides an accurate, high-altitude aerial resupply capability that does not rely on ground transportation. The system ensures accurate and timely delivery in support of operational missions, while providing aircraft with increased survivability. JPADS consists of a parachute, an autonomous guidance unit and a payload of up to 10,000 pounds and accurately delivers critical supplies with great precision from altitudes up to 24,500 feet mean sea level. JPADS can release cargo up to 25km away from its target, allowing aircraft to stay beyond close-range threats and deliver cargo to multiple locations from a single release point.
JPADS is scheduled for a Block II Upgrade from FY24 to FY26, with a focus on developing a suite of robust Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (A-PNT) solutions. This Block II JPADS effort will increase the system's capability to support Multi-Domain Operations in contested environments with near-peer adversaries. JPADS is currently conducting technology maturation and risk reduction of available and emerging APNT technologies from industry in the areas of: Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal resiliency, day/night visual navigation, radio-based navigation, M-code, alternative navigation, contested environment simulation, and more. JPADS strives to collaborate with industry partners in the PM PNT Open Innovation Lab to test and integrate the best valued technically acceptable A-PNT solutions for the JPADS Block II Upgrade.
